CERTIFIED DEVELOPMENT COMPANIES (CDCs) are nonprofit corporations approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration to work with participating lenders (typically, a bank) to provide long-term loans to small businesses. There are 270 CDCs and each covers a specific geographic area.
CDCS PARTICIPATE IN WHAT IS KNOWN AS the SBA CDC/504 Loan Program. This program provides loans for fixed assets like equipment or real estate. The CDC/504 Loan Program is one of the two most popular SBA loan programs. (The most popular is the 7(a) General Small Business Loan Program.)
CERTIFIED DEVELOPMENT COMPANIES should not be confused with Community Development Corporations, which are also sometimes called “CDCs.” Community Development Corporations are a different type of organization, which focuses on fixing up neighborhoods and providing affordable housing.
